One of the latest disputes to come to industrial action is that between London bus drivers, part of the Unite union, and bus company Abellio – in a row over pay that has yet to be resolved.
If all of the planned strikes go ahead, passengers will see several days of action cause travel disruption throughout November and December – with the planned walkouts beginning today.
So, when does the London bus trike come to an end, and when can we expect the next one?
Here’s all you need to know.
When do the London bus strikes end?
The next round of bus strikes started Friday, November 25 and will continue today, November 26.
Services this weekend are expected to resume at 6am on Sunday, November 27, as per TFL’s website.
The bus drivers walking out are based at garages in Battersea, Beddington, Hayes, Southall, Twickenham and Walworth, Unite says on its website – and it’s expected more than 950 drivers will strike.
Unite’s general secretary Sharon Graham said of the dispute: ‘Abellio is a vastly wealthy multinational company that could and should be paying its workers a fair pay increase.
Routes that will be affected by the London bus strikes
These are the 59 affected routes:
Route 481 will operate but with fewer services on weekdays from 7.30am to 8am, and from 3pm to 4pm.
Remaining services will be busier than normal.
‘With workers struggling to cope with rampant inflation, Abellio’s failure to even enter into meaningful pay talks is coldhearted and callous.
‘Unite is now entirely focused on defending and enhancing the jobs, pay and conditions of its members and the bus drivers at Abellio will be receiving the union’s complete support.’
The union’s regional officer Guy Langston added: ‘The strike action will cause widespread disruption across the London bus network, most notably in south and west London, but this dispute is entirely of Abellio’s own making.
‘It has had every opportunity to enter into meaningful pay negotiations, but it has chosen not to do so.’
However, more days of strike action are currently expected…
When is the next London bus strike?
A further nine strikes are planned by Unite members – over the same dispute with Abellio – on:
- Thursday, December 1
- Friday, December 2
- Saturday, December 3
- Friday, December 9
- Saturday, December 10
- Friday, December 16
- Saturday, December 17
However, these strikes could be called off in the future, if the dispute around pay is resolved in negotiations.
